SK Geo Centric, which declared its goal to be the “Global No.1 Recycling Material Company,” is expanding its global influence in the circular economy sector.
SK Geo Centric announced that CEO Na Kyung-soo was officially invited to the Choose France Summit 2023 hosted by French government at the Palace of Versailles on May 15 (local time). At the summit, he had meetings with key political and business figures, including President of France Emmanuel Macron and CEOs of global companies.
The Choose France Summit is an event hosted by French government to attract investment and stimulate the economy by inviting CEOs of prestigious foreign companies to France, and it has been held since 2018. This year, approximately 270 representatives of major global companies from over 40 countries, including Coca-Cola Company, Pfizer, and Toyota Motor Corporation, attended.
At this event, CEO Na discussed cooperation with CEOs of global partner companies who are jointly establishing plastic recycling plants. He also introduced SK Geo Centric’s business related to plastic recycling to French political and business figures and requested their continued cooperation and support.
SK Geo Centric is actively interacting with French companies and accelerating its entry into global markets, including Europe. Last year, the company signed a business agreement to establish a joint venture for setting up a plastic recycling plant in Europe in collaboration with SUEZ, a French circular solutions in water and waste management company, and Loop Industries, a Canadian company with core recycling technologies. The three companies plan to invest about EUR 450 million (approximately KRW 620 billion) to build a recycling plant capable of processing approximately 70,000 tons annually in the Saint-Avold region in northern France by 2027.
Also in 2019, SK Geo Centric acquired the high-performance polymer business from Arkema, the leading petrochemical company in the French polymer industry, for EUR 335 million (approximately KRW 440 billion). High-performance polymers are used in various fields, such as packaging and adhesive materials.
SK Geo Centric’s CEO Na Kyung-soo said, “Through this event, we could actively push forward with expanding interactions with Europe, including France, and promote SK Geo Centric’s contribution to solving the plastic waste problem.” He added, “We will make the most of SK Geo Centric’s experiences and technologies in building a global circular economy.”
