Fire safety is a critical requirement for cables used in buildings, transportation, automotive, and power distribution networks. Halogen-Free Flame Retardant (HFFR) compounds help improve fire performance while reducing smoke generation and eliminating halogen-containing materials.
HFFR compounds are increasingly replacing PVC in applications where stringent fire safety regulations and environmental requirements must be met.
Typical HFFR formulations combine polyethylene, Lotryl® or Evatane® copolymers, high loadings of mineral flame retardants—such as aluminum trihydrate (ATH) or magnesium hydroxide (MDH)—and Orevac® or Lotader® coupling agents.
SKFP Solutions for HFFR Compounds
SKFP offers a complete range of products that contribute to the performance of HFFR cable compounds.
Evatane® and Lotryl®
Flexible and polar copolymers such as Evatane® and Lotryl® enable the incorporation of high levels of mineral fillers while maintaining excellent processing and mechanical properties.
Orevac® and Lotader®
Orevac® and Lotader® coupling agents improve the interaction between polymer matrices and mineral fillers, resulting in:
- Improved mechanical properties
- Better retention of properties after ageing
- Enhanced filler dispersion
- Improved flame retardancy
- Easier processing of highly filled formulations
HFFR compounds are also referred to as Low Smoke Zero Halogen (LSZH), Low Smoke Non-Halogen (LSNH), Low Smoke Zero-Halogen (LS0H), or Eco-products in some regions such as Japan.
