Compatibilisation of  Polyamide/Polypropylene blends

SK Functional Polymer (SKFP) provides Lotader® and Orevac® to compatibilize plastics blends and improve their mechanical properties. Recycled PA can be contaminated with polypropylene (PP). The PP contamination, even at low level (10% or less), can affect some mechanical properties of polyamides. This results in PA/PP blends with degraded performances, with properties inferior to virgin PA.

Polyamides (PA) are difficult to sort due to different wastes origins. It then becomes a challenge to maintain good properties of the recycled feedstock. SKFP Solutions In presence of 25% PP contaminants, a blend of Lotader® 4700/ Orevac® CA100 in PA6/PP increase the elongation at break and impact strength above those of the virgin PA6. Other Lotader® and Orevac® grades can also provide combination of processability and toughening at room or low temperature with optimum stiffness.

Lotader® 4700 ethylene – ethyl acrylate – maleic anhydride terpolymer and Orevac® CA100 grafted polypropylene can be added to PA/PP recycled blends at loading from 2.5 w% to 10.0 w% to significantly increase the properties of the blend. Lotader® 4700/ Orevac® CA100 combination  was tested below to increase PA6 performances by improving its compatibility with the PP pollution.
